October 19, 2013, Saturday, our second day in Israel - it was Shabbat day. Shabbat day is the Jewish day of rest and the seventh day of the week, on which Jews remember the traditional creation of the heavens and the earth in six days. During Shabbat, Jews observe it by refraining from work and other activities.
We were supposed to join the Nazareth and Sea of Galilee tour that time but because we were not aware of their daylight saving time (they adjusted their time an hour ahead of their usual time which is gmt +2), we missed our pick up time.
Hence, we ended up joining the complimentary tour of our hotel, the Neve Tzadek Walking Tour which last until 12pm. So, after that, we decided to walk farther and to look for lunch.
Since it was Shabbat day, most of the establishments were closed. Fortunately (at first), we found this restaurant on the road to Jaffa - the Big Itzik Grill.
Looking at the menu, almost everything was foreign (that made me feel I was foreigner to that country). Though it meant splurging 165 shekels, we ended up placing order for steaks - the most safe meal we could have. Our order came with complimentary appetizers - super pita bread that goes with olives, fried potatoes, and other spicy dips.
Then my veal steak - I was not that familiar with veal, kangaroo ba ito, kabayo or lamb, basta alam ko ok yon, :)
Our meal was great and it came with good service. The crew, and even the young owner, kept on asking how are we doing.
When it was time to pay for our bill, we handed over the crew the exact amount in the receipt. The crew told us that we need to give a tip of 10-15% if we were satisfied with the service. We were still calculating of how much would the 15% be, when he grabbed our bills and he said that would be enough. Still unable to comprehend what had happened, we handed him over the cash and it was already too late when we realized that it was more than 15%.
Nabudol-budol kami dun, hahaha!!! We just laughed and managed to say - charge it to experience :p Feeling yayamanin!
