Craving for that Pork Dish
My brother and I share a lot of things in common - that include gastronomical likings. In May 2009, our second trip to Hong Kong, we came across Cafe de Coral, a famous fast food chain in the city. I remember that it was our first meal right after arriving there and both of us had this luscious pork dish - Baked Pork Chop with Rice.
How was it? Big serving! Thick meat, thick tomato sauce, crunchy veggies and with Portuguese appeal. Something that is worth coming back for.
Cafe de Coral is nowhere to be found here in the Philippines. So, dining at Cafe de Coral and savoring that pork dish again is one of the things in our must-do list when going back to Hong Kong. And after 5 years of waiting, in December 2014, we finally got a chance to visit Hong Kong for the third time.
It was a good thing that the fast food chain has a branch in Chungking Mansion which is just a few steps away from our guest house. So, we went there on our second night for dinner. To our dismay, the pork dish was not available at the time since it was nearly closing time when we came in and some of the dishes were taken off from the menu. We, then, settled with Roasted Chicken with Rice.
Chicken nga ba?? Malansa, may makapal na taba sa pagitan balat at karne, at iba ang buto nya sa chicken na kinakain ko sa Pinas. I reckon, it was a Peking duck! At hindi ako masyadong nasiyahan, buti na lang at ako ay gutom.
After two more days and nights of stay without any chance of dining back at Cafe de Coral, we already thought that we missed feasting with the pork chop. But, fate was on our side that we found Cafe de Coral at the departure area in HKIA in time for dinner before our designated flight and at the same time, Baked Pork Chop was available. We didn't miss it after all!
And when our dish was served: it had a new look! No more broccoli but with more tomatoes and cheese, not as thick meat as before but still big serving, and the Portuguese appeal was still there. The Baked Pork Chop with Rice which we had that time may be a bit different from the one we had previously - but definitely, our cravings were satisfied!
