The Old Town's Way

So it was my first time to go abroad all by self. I went primarily to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for a seminar workshop on test development. I arrived there on June 11, 2012, attended the training on the 12-14th, roamed around KL Central Market on the 15th and went home on the 16th. Since there was nothing much to do on my last day,  I went to airport ahead of time although my flight was scheduled in the late afternoon.

Six hours before my designated flight, at around 12 noon,  I was already in KL International Airport and I immediately checked in my luggages upon arrival at the airport. Since there was too much time, I ended up in the Old Town White Coffee to eat my lunch and to spend the rest of my free time using my laptop.

What did I have for lunch? I decided to have something that sounds familiar but has a Malaysian touch - the Old Town's Nasi Lemak with Fried Chicken (RM10.50). I just found online recently that Nasi Lemak is the national dish of Malaysia and it is actually a fragrant rice dish cooked in coconut milk and 'pandan' leaf.

My Old Town plate has fried chicken, rice, sambal belacan (similar to Pinoy's bagoong or alamang with lots of sili), ikan ibis (Pinoy's fried dilis) and peanut, nachos, egg and cucumber.

I was not sure how to eat these - should I mix them? I didn't and just had them as they are. I could not recall savoring coconut milk on the rice either. I also found it strange to eat peanuts (as in, whole grain) and nachos with rice. But definitely, I got full and was delighted with my Malay lunch!
