The Tram Experience
Victoria Peak, also known as The Peak, is a
famous tourist spot in Hong Kong. It is
the highest point in Hong Kong Peninsula offering a very scenic view of the cityscape and Victoria Harbour. It is also where you could
experience one of the world’s steepest funicular railways, the Peak Tramway.
The Peak Tram Lower Terminus is located in
Garden Road, Hong Kong Island. It is
walking distance from MTR – Central Station.
Tram tickets could be purchased along with
entrance fees to the other attractions at the Peak. (see http://www.thepeak.com.hk/en/3_1.asp
) For the round trip tram ride alone, it
costs HK$40.
Peak Tram Historical Gallery, an open
museum featuring memorabilia from around the world, is also located at the Peak
Tram Lower Terminus. There are a lot of things to look
at there while waiting for the tram.
The Peak has always been part of my
itinerary each time I visit Hong Kong.
My first visit was in May 2006, then in May 2009 and the latest was in
December 2014. Each time I went there, I
always rode the Peak Tram to reach the Peak. (It can also be accessed via other
public and private transport.) But it
was only during my latest trip that I got to experience the tram ride going
downhill.
Ganoon pala yon. You are seated in “going-up” position when you go down. Maybe because of how steep the railway is kaya you should go down in the same position. Masubsob ka nga naman.
