Visita Iglesia: the Meryenda Break
In the middle of accomplishing my Semana Santa panata this Maundy Thursday (March 24, 2016) with companions Mama, Ann, Aylin and Banny, we felt the heat of summer sun as well as the call of our tummies. That time, we were in between our 3rd and 4th stop which were both in San Juan. Meryenda time!
Okay. So whenever you're in San Juan, there is this one eatery that is a must visit - Aling Banang. Aling Banang is local eatery in San Juan offering Filipino meryenda. Their famous and one of kind meals includes pancit, halo-halo and tapsilog.
Pancit Miki-Bihon
Aling Banang's pancit menu varies from bihon, miki, miki-bihon to lomi, bihon soup and miki soup with price ranging from Php 40.00 to Php 65.00, good for 1 person per serving. They also offer these in good for sharing order. We placed an order for Pancit Miki-Bihon for 10 persons (we were only 6, including the driver, but we felt like each could consume more than 1 serving hahaha). The price is at Php 400.00.
We didn't expect it to be this full serving - isa itong ga-bundok!!! and how did it tastes? - it can be compared with those authentic pancit served in Binondo. (Patawarin nawa kami ng Poong Maykapal sa pagkain ng karne - Good Friday naman talaga ang fasting di ba?)
Halo-halo
Aling Banang has 3 kinds of halo-halo recipe - Halo-halo Ice at Php 45.00, Halo-halo Ice Cream at Php 50.00 and Halo-halo Special at Php 55.00. How do they differ? Halo-halo Ice and Halo-halo Special are almost the same except for the ice cream toppings. Halo-halo Ice Cream is somewhat like Halo-halo Ice except that instead of crushed ice - they use ice cream. Among the three, I think the Halo-halo Ice Cream is the most unusual. However, since I really need something super refreshing that time so I placed an order for the one with crushed ice - Halo-halo Special!
According to our driver, Aling Banang has several locations in San Juan. I am not familiar with the others but the one in N. Domingo St., near SM Centerpoint, was where we dropped by.
