Bethlehem (once more)

Still in Bethlehem, this was part of the tour during the IAEA Conference break. This was taken infront of the Church of the Nativity with some fellow IAEA participants and Mustafa, the Palestinian tour guide (the one in strips standing at the leftmost side).

CHURCH OF ST. CATHERINE

Adjoining the Church of the Nativity is the Santae Catharinae Virgini Martiri Dicatvm, or the Church of St. Catherine. This is the parish church for Bethlehem's Catholics.

This is the interior of Church of St. Catherine where the midnight Mass televised worldwide on Christmas eve is celebrated.

This Bas-relief of the Tree of Jesse was recently incorporated into the church as a gift of Pope Benedict XVI during his trip to the Holyland in 2009. The bronze bas-relief displays biblical motifs.

COMPLEX OF CAVES UNDER CHURCH

The Chapel of the Holy Innocents commemorating the male children killed by King Herod. This is said to be the burial place of infants killed by King Herod in his attempt to eliminate the new born "King of the Jews".

The crucifix at the Cave of St. Jerome. This is the grotto thought to be the study where St. Jerome translated the Old and New Testaments of the Bible into Latin.

The Tomb of Saint Paula and her daughter, Eustochium: they were Romans who worked with St. Jerome in making Bethlehem a great monastic center.

The Chapel of St. Joseph commemorating the appearance of an angel to St. Joseph, commanding him to bring the Holy Family to Egypt.

At this exact place is where St. Joseph dreamt of an angel warning him to take the Mary and Jesus to Egypt.
