Old Jaffa: The Comeback(s)

After our first visit, we still went back to Old Jaffa two times. And the succeeding visits were not just to explore the place but to do Christian practice - that is, to hear mass on Sundays.

Old Jaffa had been part of our Sundays during our 10-day stay in Tel Aviv, Israel, from October 18-27, 2013. In particular, we went there to hear mass in St. Peter's Church at 8 o'clock. The only one conducted in English on Sundays.

Attending the mass at St. Peter's Church during that time was not only doing a Christian practice but it was like being home. The church, which could accommodate approximately 50-70 persons, were filled with Filipinos - the choir, the readers, the lay persons and most of the attendees. (Who knows, we might already bumped into Osang - the recent X-factor Israel winner who happens to be a Filipino. I just thought of this after seeing some of her television footage in front of the church).

That first Sunday we spent there, we still did some exploration of Old Jaffa. Particularly, we had the following sights captured.

Reading from the Lonely Planet book, I learned that there is a wishing bridge at Old Jaffa, which we were not able to see on our first visit.  So, on our next visit, we really looked for it.  Time to make a wish!

Unfortunately, the wishing bridge was not open that time.  But for a typical Aries like me (we make things happen #TigasUlo), I put one hand on my invisible horn and the other one on the bridge, faced the Mediterranean Sea and made a wish! Sana, it will come true pa rin ;-)

We also found this bizaree white neo-Mayan sculpture at the center of Abrasha Park.  It is called the Statue of Faith depicting the fall of Jericho, Isaac's sacrifice and Jacob's dream.

This is Tel Aviv Promenade viewed on top of the hill of Old Jaffa.  Guess where our haven, Dan Panorama Hotel, is. :)

Walking downhill, we passed by the Arab Hebrew Theater of Jaffa, a home to so many brilliant theatrical artists.

Downhill of Old Jaffa, this street view was captured while waiting for our lunch to be served.

While the second Sunday was just spent on hearing the mass. On that same day was our flight back to Manila. So, for the last time, I had photo in front of the church where the Apostle Peter had vision on accepting the gentiles to Christianity.
