Kit Kat Adventures
This has nothing to do with my travels but more of my kakikayan
and something that I am looking forward to when I visit Japan – Kit Kat
adventures!
Anybody who has a sweet tooth probably knows what Kit Kat is.
It’s that chocolate coated wafer biscuit bar that goes with the tag line: Have
a break, Have a Kit Kat. This is one sweet that I would not possibly get
enough of.
Did you know that aside from the chocolate-flavored bar we used to eat
during break time, there are still varieties of Kit Kat? Yes,
there are about 20 different flavors as quirky as
wasabi, soy sauce and hot chili flavors or tangy as raspberry and blueberry.
Biting these bars would, indeed, bring adventure to anyone’s taste bud. And by the way, these Kit Kats are uniquely created in
Japan!
So if ever, I’ll be given a chance to go to Japan - hunting for these Kit Kats is definitely first in my 'to-do' list. But while waiting for that opportunity, I’ll do the hunting here in Manila.
The first time I learned about these Japanese Kit Kats was when I was at
Greenhills Shopping Mall in San Juan, Manila. There is this stall in the
basement of Virra Mall selling these sweets. At an instant, the variety
of Kit Kat bars caught my attention and for a starter, I picked the Uji Matcha,
or simply, Green Tea flavor. Obviously, I chose it since next to wasabi,
which was not available during that time, green tea is a distinct Japan
flavoring.
How it tastes? It’s creamy but has that slightly bitter after taste – kasi
nga tea e.
Sakura Matcha
Another variant of green tea – the Sakura Matcha. Sakura is
the Japenese term for cherry blossom. I didn’t think that cherry
blossom is edible nor has an interesting taste. Thus, I think, this counts as one of the quirky
flavors of Kit Kat. Anyway, my brother got this for me as pasalubong
from a weekend getaway.
How it tastes? Surprisingly, there is nothing quirky with how it tastes. Compared with uji matcha, this is a lot
creamier and sweeter. The bitter after taste is no longer there.
Dark and White Chocolates
Since I was already hooked with Kit Kat Japan, I began hunting for other
flavors online. Well, although dark and white chocolates are another
variants, I didn’t find any unusual flavor of Kit Kat online (karamihan sa
mga chocolates may ganyang flavors e). But still, I
placed my orders and tried these flavors. And I wasn’t delighted – it was as
expected.
Peanut Butter
And then suddenly, there was a new flavor that is available in
the local market – Peanut Butter. Of course, I had it sampled agad-agad.
Among the local Kit Kats, this is my favorite such that whenever I go to the
grocery store for our monthly supplies, I always grab one bar for myself.
How it tastes? The peanut butter filling goes well with the wafer bar and the
chocolate coat. It reminds me of Reese. :D
Raspberry
My latest adventure – raspberry. Last Sunday, I was browsing on
Instagram when I came across the account of @chocoholicsbynix and found two new
Kit Kat flavors, raspberry and toasted pudding. I immediately sent the
account owner a message and placed an order, one of each kind.
Unfortunately, the toasted pudding ran out of stock. So what I got was the
raspberry.
How it tastes? The ‘berry’ flavor is too strong but in a good way. Matamis
na may asim sa dulo – like a freshly picked berry fruit.
White Blanc
Another white chocolate? This one went with the raspberry given by @chocoholicsbynix - a sampler. Nothing seems to be unusual with this aside from - it is made in France(?).
How it tastes? It is a white chocolate coated wafer.
So far, I am loving my Kit Kat adventures and very much looking forward for more (and hopefully, the adventures would be in Japan)!
