Quiapo Food Trip

Quiapo has been known as a melting pot here in Manila.  It is also known as the "Old Downtown of Manila" where you can find anything - as in anything, you need at a cheaper price.

Last January 19, 2015, Banny, an officemate, and I went to Quiapo for our dental appointment.  It was almost noon time when we arrived at the clinic and there was already a long queue.  So while waiting for our turn, we decided to look around for something to eat first.

Our first stop: "Turu-turo" at the corner of Quezon Blvd. and G. Puyat St. (formerly, Raon)

This stall, for me, is one of Quiapo's hidden gems.  There is no sign of its name but you'll know that it serves good food because of people going in and out of the place non-stop.  Good thing, we were able to find a table immediately when we came in.

What we had? S'yempre since we were in a panciteria, we had pancit paired with siopao.

The siopao: hmmm...nothing unusual. It tastes like other siopao but it is slight bigger than the usual.

How much? Php 28.00 each

The Pancit Pata Chami: I guess, this is the house's specialty.  As in, kakaiba ito sa lahat ng chaming natikman ko!  The chami noodles goes well with pata tim sauce and it has toppings of fish balls and chunks of pata.  It's a sweet-salty dish! (Malapit ang lasa sa Cheese Rings.) A must-try talaga!

How much? Php 92.50, good for 2 persons.

Next stop: Globe Lumpia House along G. Puyat St. (formerly, Raon)

The place is small which can accommodate only two booths where they prepare your lumpia. There is also a small window where you pay your bill.  And since the place is small, they do not offer dining service. But in spite of its size, there was a long queue of people waiting for take away orders - the sign of good food!

The lumpiang sariwa: They are famed for this - lumpiang sariwa, and it is no surprise when you got to taste it.  The spring roll they offer has fresh lettuce, caramel sauce with crushed peanuts, shredded ubod (coconut palm hearts) and carrots, fried garlic and some spices, which I am not familiar with, wrapped in fresh lumpia wrapper.  I love the sweet-garlic flavor! Another must-try!

How much? Only Php 18.00 each!

And that was our gastronomical adventure in Quiapo - happy tummy!
