Historic Centre of Macao

I have been to Macau once, in 2009, and I would love to go back there if given a chance.  As I had written in my previous post, one of my many reasons for going back there is to visit the other sites included in the Historic Centre of Macao (inscribed in the UNESCO World Heritage list in 2005).

Historic Centre of Macao is one of the must see places in Macau.  It says a lot about Macau being a colony of Portugal from mid-16th century until late 1999.  Macau is known as the last European colony in Asia. Likewise, Historic Centre of Macau also offers pictures of its Chinese roots.  - A fusion of East and West culture!

 A-Ma Temple
One of the oldest and most famous Taoist temples in Macau

  Ruins of St. Paul
 Macau's best known landmark

Capela de Nossa Sehnora da Guia and Guia Lighthouse
 Guia Fortress
(Fortaleza de Guia)
A 17th-century colonial military fort, chapel, and lighthouse complex

Guia Lighthouse
the first western style lighthouse in east Asia or on the China coast

 Leal Senado Building
The seat of Macau's  government during its time as a Portuguese colony

Senado Square
(Largo de Senado)
A paved town square

Below are the places included in the Historic Centre of Macau. (source: http://www.macauheritage.net/wh/mhfileE.asp )
