The Quest for my Birthday Noodles
April 18, 2013 - it was my Xth birthday (hehehe). Like what most of people do on their birthdays, I celebrate it by holding "salo-salo" even in the simplest way. And any "salo-salo" won't be "salo-salo" without sharing food. I am not Chinese nor by any chance, genetically associated with them. But I follow one of their traditions - that is to have "pancit" or noodles on my birthday for longer life.
On that day, I was on vacation in Siem Reap, Cambodia together with my mom and some travel buddies. Since the place was foreign - it was a quest to look for my birthday noodles.
It started during lunch at Temple Club in Pub Street. We had Spring Rolls, Stir Fried Seafoods, house's specialty - Temple Seafood Pizza, and....
I didn't see anything that looks like pancit in the menu - so I guess, the Marinara would be a great substitute (though it is made of pasta and not 'Chinese' noodles). And indeed, we had a Khmer food feast!
After that, we went to The Blue Pumpkin, an ice cream parlor, bakery and cafe combined, for desserts. It is one of the hangout places there.
Since I am a bit adventurous, I chose something unusual in the menu. I had "dizzy treat" - it has caramel, chocolate, KAHLUA, grand marnier, choco fudge and almonds - it tasted heaven!!!
On that same day, we flew back to Manila at around 11pm, GMT+7. So while waiting for our flight, we had dinner at the airport. And there, I found my birthday noodles - Hokkien Mee. It's stir-fried Hokkien noodles with beef, carrots, green peas, French beans and tamarind sauce.
Grabe, ang sarap!!! I so love the tamarind sauce on the noodles!
And that concluded the quest for my birthday noodles! :)
